MEET THE CREW

Captain Elizabeth Shanahan
US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master
Certified Diver

Elizabeth Shanahan grew up on the water in Newport Beach, Southern California. Since she was child, she had an affinity for boats, sailing and water activity in general. Elizabeth had her first boat at the age of 7, a Sabot by the name of Sunflower. Beyond her Sabot, through the Balboa Island Yacht Club and Balboa Bay Club, she raced her beloved boat as well as Lasers and Hobie Cat 16s. As she got older, her boats got bigger. During her youth, she also worked for a Newport Beach high-end yacht brokerage by the name of the Crow's Nest. After the Crow's Nest she started her own business, Elizabeth's Yacht Maintenance.

Elizabeth always loved her boats, but after meeting Richard she found her boat partner. The couple started out with a Newport 30 and moved up to a Kelly Peterson 44. They have sailed boats together throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and the entire Pacific Coast.

Engineer Richard Johnston
Certified Diver

Born and raised in Costa Mesa, Southern California, Richard always had a love for water. While his boating career started on fresh water river and lakes, he soon realized a passion for open water sailing. Beyond his boating pedigree, Richard has an extensive background in engineering and can fix everything from rigging to electrical, plumbing, general maintenance and trouble shooting. Richard is an avid sailboat racer and has raced competitively on winning teams all over California, the Caribbean and Mexico.

The Team

The lure of tropical sailing inspired the couple to quit their jobs and let the winds dictates their course. The couple is looking forward to new adventures and sharing their passion for sailing and the water sports with you. The couple always wanted to travel and S/V Sea Gnome became their adventure. They are also both certified divers.
